First UMC Hampton and COVID-19

First UMC Hampton cares about our members and our community. To keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible, we are following state guidelines and the procedures required by the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Prepare for In-Person Worship

The FUMC Healthy Church Team (HCT) has made the decision to plan to resume in-person worship on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021.
We will still be under most of the same restrictions as were in effect last summer and fall:
  • We need everyone to pre-register for worship each week, which will include affirming you have no known exposure to COVID, no potentially COVID-related symptoms, and are not waiting on test results. You will be asked to reaffirm this Health Acknowledgment when you arrive for worship.
  • Everyone over the age of 2 must wear a mask at all times while on church property. Please put on your mask before exiting your vehicle, and keep it on until you return there.
  • Social distancing of at least six feet from non-household members is required at all times, indoors or outside.
  • Once an usher has directed you to your seat, please remain there (seated) until the ushers indicate you can depart by the nearest aisle.
  • We will provide paper bulletins in the pews, and the hymnals and Bibles are back as well, but they cannot be shared with non-household members during worship.
  • We still cannot sing together.
Pre-registration helps our team plan for seating with appropriate distancing, and keeps us from having to turn people away at the door if we reach our capacity. If you forget to pre-register and show up on Sunday morning, our volunteers will let you know if we are at capacity, or if space allows you to come in. The link to register is below.
The consequences of not following these rules are high for all of us. If we operate outside of the Virginia Conference requirements, the Bishop could order us to shut down all in-person ministry. If an usher or Healthy Church Team member reminds you of the rules around masks or social distancing, please remember that it is because we want to be able to continue moving forward with in-person worship. If someone deliberately breaks the rules, or refuses to comply after being reminded, they will be asked to leave. Refusal to leave when asked will result in the entire service being ended at that time for everyone. Thank you for abiding by these requirements so we can continue to worship in person!
We will continue to make the service available online for those who are unable to attend in person.

Voluntary Survey About Vaccination

The Healthy Church Team would like to find out how many in our congregation have been vaccinated, so we can better assess the relative level of risk in in-person worship. We invite you to take this voluntary survey to help us in our planning.
Neither taking this survey, nor your vaccination status, has any impact on whether you can attend worship. God loves the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike!
